Theological Training in Africa - Board
Board of Directors
*Denotes a board officer
Our board is comprised of individuals who
personally know the Stuebings and who are also familiar with work in
Africa.
John Addleman,
Secretary, Mechanicsburg, PA*
Professor of Counseling and Director of the Counseling Program at Messiah College. Joined the Messiah staff in 1983. Prior service as a youth pastor and volunteer in youth ministry for over 10 years. Education: Wheaton College (Bible degree), Trinity Seminary (M.Div.), Shippensburg University (M.A.), University of Maryland (Ph.D.).
"I visited TCCA a few years ago when Kathy Stuebing and I co-led a trip to Zambia for a group of Messiah College students. It was a wonderful, life changing event. My family and I also spent a year at Daystar University in Nairobi, Kenya, where I was teaching and doing research. We love Africa and the people of Africa and continue to be interested in finding ways to help the continent of Africa, particularly in education and training in ministry." |
H. David Brandt, Mechanicsburg, PA
Retired in 2007. Worked at six different Christian colleges/universities, most recently as president of George Fox University. Service has included physics faculty member (11 years), chief academic officer (18 years), and institution president (12 years). Education: Wheaton College (B.S. in Physics), University of Oklahoma (M.S. in Physics, Ph.D. in Physics).
"I have been interested and involved with Christian higher education in Africa since 1979. While I was the academic VP at Messiah College (PA), we established a degree program with what is now Daystar University, Nairobi, Kenya. I have served on the board of Daystar's support arm in the U.S. and have visited the university 27 times. This experience convinced me that higher education is the most effective way to help the church in Africa to grow in both size and maturity. Thus I believe that THETA has an important ministry in supporting TCCA in the 21st century." |
J-Lynn Conrady, Vice Chair, Dillsburg, PA*
Retired administrative manager of an Ohio integrated packaging printing company, now living in central Pennsylvania to be nearer family. Education: Ashland University (B.S. in Business Administration).
"Being long-time Brethren in Christ, we have known the Stuebings for many years. In retirement we have visited TCCA three times for short-term work with the library and the business office. Serving with THETA provides an opportunity to apply my business skill-sets in ministry related activity. Visiting TCCA added names, faces and friendships, making it very personal." |
Chad Frey, Harrisburg, PA
Director of the Agape Center for Service and Learning at Messiah College (PA), with prior work in the Development Office and Student Affairs. Served on several BIC boards and participated in several BIC churches. Education: Messiah College (B.A. in Christian Education), Geneva College (Masters in Higher Education), Ashland Theological Seminary (met BIC CORE and ordination requirements), Penn State University (completing doctoral program in Adult education).
"The advancement of the Christian church in Africa has been an important priority for many of my friends & family members for years. The body of Christ is growing in Africa, and congregations need more well-trained, courageous leaders. I believe that THETA is uniquely positioned to provide the financial, material, and personnel support that is critical to equipping future Church leadership." |
Dorothy Gish,
Chair, Mechanicsburg, PA*
Spent years as an educator in Africa, including three decades at the university level as a professor and as an administrator. As a proponent of life-long stewardship, she is now working for the Brethren in Christ church developing and administering theological education. Having worked as an educator and educational administrator from preschool to grad school and adult education, she has seen what a difference education can make to the individual as well as to the family, community and church. Education: Greenville College (B.A. in Psychology/Education), Pennsylvania State University (M.Ed. in Child Development/Family Relations, Ph.D. in Child Development/Family Relations).
"My current work in theological education and as a member of a seminary board has made me very aware that the church of Christ around the world needs educated leaders. TCCA has and continues to prepare outstanding Christian leaders. I have seen first-hand examples of the impact its graduates are making." |
Judy Hamilton, Dillsburg, PA
Retired assistant bookstore manager at Messiah College (PA). Elementary school teacher and stay at home mom. Education: Messiah College and Shippensburg University.
"My ministry interests focus on missions as I am the daughter of BIC Latin American missionaries. My husband and I have been friends of Kathy and Rich Stuebing for many years, beginning in college with Kathy. This motivated me to serve on the THETA board and to support the ministry." |
Anne Kelly,
Treasurer, Mason, OH*
Retired teacher’s assistant in special education in Hamilton County (OH) schools. Active in local churches (various Presbyterian and non-denominational Bible fellowships) emphasizing Biblical teaching and missions outreach. Education: University of Delaware (B.S), Cornell University (M.S.).
"Lyle and I met Rich & Kathy Stuebing at Cornell, so we have known them throughout their career in Zambia. We watched them become African in understanding and compassion, while bringing Biblical principles into the education of local pastors, teachers, and spouses. On trips to Zambia we have seen the impact of graduates of the unique multi-denominational, multi-tribal approach provided by TCCA. We are happy to support this productive work via THETA." |
Lyle Kelly, Mason, OH
Retired information technology professional (34 years of computer applications design, implementation and support at Procter & Gamble). Active in local churches (various Presbyterian and non-denominational Bible fellowships) emphasizing Biblical teaching and missions outreach. Education: University of Delaware (B.E.E.), Cornell University (M.Eng.).
"As Anne noted, we have known Rich & Kathy Stuebing throughout their career in Zambia. The graduates of TCCA are their legacy, the fruit of their labor. This important work goes on, but only to the extent that students can afford to live and study at TCCA. This is why we strongly support THETA’s new emphasis on funding student scholarships there." |
Gail Ryan,
Souderton, PA
Principal of an elementary school in Souderton, PA (with 22 years of service there). Wife of Kevin, who has 23 years in ministry with the Brethren in Christ Church. Education: Messiah College (elementary education).
"I remember hearing Kathy sing with Messiah College groups in my church in Carlisle when I was growing up! I followed Rich and Kathy's ministry with the Brethren in Christ church for many years. I watched and saw two godly people commit their lives to ministry in Zambia and was honored to be asked to serve on their board. From an insider's perspective, I continue to be impressed with the deep level of service and compassion that Rich and Kathy bring to the ministry." |
Stephanie Schick, Garnet Valley, PA
Marketing Associate at J.P. Morgan Chase. Education: Messiah College (B.S. in Marketing).
"During my time at Messiah, I was introduced to the model of micro-finance and began working on a model for Zambia. I traveled to Zambia and fell in love with the people and the culture. I have seen the value of a quality education for African people, and saw THETA as a perfect avenue to help provide just that! I also served with Forgotten Voices during my Messiah years, and have seen the positive impact that a TCCA education has on organizations like FVI that work with pastors in Zambia and Zimbabwe. I am honored to be a part of this wonderful board of passionate people." |
Roger Sider, Lewisberry, PA
Retired physician. After medical school and a one-year internship, served two years with wife Joann in Zimbabwe in medical missions with Brethren in Christ World Missions. Board member with Brethren in Christ World Missions from 1971 to 1987. Education: Messiah College (B.A.), University of Toronto (M.D.), Johns Hopkins University and the University of London (psychiatric residencies).
"We visited the Stuebings at TCCA in 1984. My current participation on the THETA Board grows out of a longtime interest in missions in Africa, my appreciation for the many years of dedicated ministry the Stuebings have given at TCCA, and my belief in the strategic importance of TCCA in providing high quality theological education to equip pastoral and lay leaders for the church in Zambia. I believe that a strong partnership between TCCA and THETA will benefit both TCCA and the North American Church." |
